Getting the kiln ready

Our DiY Kiln
Made from an oil drum, lined with ceramic fibre, runs on propane fuel

Adding wood shavings to the pot

Adding wood shavings
Dry material (wood shavings, seaweed, newspaper) is added to alight the pot.

Covering the pot
Covering the pot to allow for reduction. The glaze cracks & carbon (dark lines) appear in the cracks.

Witch's Brew
Bisqued white stoneware "naked raku". Fired to1450 F, alighted by wood shavings, covered/uncovered, sprayed with water, sacrificial glaze falls off, cleaned & here are the results!!

Candleholders with nasturtium imprints, enhanced by underglazes, bisque-fired, glazed + raku-fired to 1850 Fahrenheit.
